Café Rualdo has been owned by the same family since 1964. The grower José David Arce grows and processes micro-lots of unique, bold flavoured coffees. The coffee is grown at an elevation of more than 1,350 meters above sea level, that comes from the slopes of the Poás volcano in the Central Valley region. That, along with volcano-enriched soils and constant rain,makes for a unique coffee-producing environment, which is transmitted to the surprising cup qualities of our coffee. Most coffee producers in Costa Rica deliver their coffee cherries to cooperatives or private mills in the region, which then process the coffee. However, in 2006 the micro-mill "revolution" began. Some producers chose to invest in the installation
of their own coffee processing facilities. This means that many farmers are no longer just growing their coffee and delivering it to a cooperative. Instead they take on the arduous task of processing it themselves, from start to finish. This is why José David Arce decided in 2018 to invest in their own micro-mill: Café Rualdo. The purpose of the micro-mill was to add value to their product and to reach a global market. It was a lot of work to take on, but little by little they were able to see positive results. And now, in 2021 and in association with Origin Costa Rica, they were able to export their coffee for the very first time".
